One thing that always concerns RPers is character death- and this is understandable, as we all become extremely attached to our characters as their personalities and stories unfold. Hell, most good RPers will become attached to other peoples' characters as well and no one wants to see a character they like die off. It is for that reason that Borasco has safeguards against charcter death in most regards- and I have also taken precautions to ensure that death does not always mean the end. Therefore, this post will be longer than most you will find in the instruction manual and has been broken down into a couple of sections.
Now that that is out of the way, I would like to make one thing readily apparent before you read any further. It is pretty difficult for player characters to die here.
The first thing that will likely do your character in is simple old age. If you decide to stick with us as our world grows, changes and evolves, your character will end up getting old and eventually will die. However, given the nature of Borasco's environment and the fact that we run on half-time (a year in Borasco lasts six OOC months) it will take a long time for your character to succumb.
Keep in mind that your characters can get hurt and fall sick, depending on what you put them through. However, unless it is your desire to have your character die for whatever reason, neither injury nor illness will claim their life, even though they may end up carrying scars or suffering the after-effects of certain illnesses. The repercussions are in place just to make things interesting and to add a modicum of realism to what happens here, nothing more and nothing less.
Fights to the death. Yes, these can happen when one character gets pissed at another to want to kill them. However, when two characters are fighting to the death, both RPers need to make it abundantly clear via OOC note at the beginning of their first posts in a thread that they are engaging in a death battle and both parties agree to have one or both characters die at the end of the fight. This is actually not something I expect to see happen all that much, truthfully, but it is one way to have your character(s) die off for whatever reason.
Blatant, rampant, obnoxious stupidity. While it is very fun to play an extremely dim-witted character, or one that is created for comic relief, I am not addressing that sort of character here. What I mean by blatant, rampant, obnoxious stupidity is if your character charges head-long into every single fight and dangerous situation, wearing a sauce pan on their head and waving a stick around like a weapon. Or going out of their way to be extremely unprepared, yet marching into a dangerous area and attracting the attention of every single dangerous NPC or PC in the immediate vicinity. That sort of pure jackassery is going to get your character killed in a quickness.
Of course, if you really want your character to die, you are more than welcome to devise their demise in any way you can think of. As long as it's something you really want to do, you can make their deaths as exciting and gory, or as quiet and peaceful, as you might want to.
